Remembering Internet Radio Station
For a number of years this was the website for Infernal Rock Radio, an officially licensed ASCAP, BMI and SESAC Internet Radio Station through Loudcity.net!
Content is from the site's 2010- 2012 archived pages as well as from other outside sources.
The new owners of this domain were bummed out when it disappeared from the web. Probably the domain registration wasn't renewed at some point and poof, no more Infernal Rock Radio website. Take a nostalgic trip back....
"SO MUCH METAL!!! SO LITTLE TIME!!!!"

Looking for something fresh to listen to while at work? In your car? Wanna thrash out instead of watching television? Sick of CORPORATE ROCK? I have just the place for you.
We are a station built by the BANDS, for the FANS. If you are looking for something different, but something that will PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE...
Amoral / Ben Varon INTERVIEW @ Infernal Rock Radio 26.09.2012
THIS VIDEO: 26th September 2012, Ben Varon from Amoral Finland, joined the Beasty in the Underworld for an interview by http://infernalrockradio.com/. The original audio with songs and better quality of sound can be heard here http://affiliate.kickapps.com/_Amoral... The video is made by Amoral Street Team

Note from listener Rudy Doody: Loved the Beasty and all his wacko noise and whatnot. My kid brother learned to do an imitation of him that was spot on and always made me laugh. Our mutt Oily got a cool bed because we learned about GoodNightDog.com from one of Beasty's crazy raps where he scolded all dog owners for not paying attention to their dog's sleeping equipment. We listened, we learned and Oily now has his cool round bed thanks to Infernal Rock! Really a shame they disappeared but I guess nothing lasts forever. Still, there's nothing that replaces the ear menace that we used to love!

BOA Friday Night!
Where do I start? Slammin Alvin and Jimmy K started a Radio Station called 97.9 WBOA The Best of Rock and Metal in 1989. We would record 90 minutes shows on cassette tapes and hand them out to our friends. We would also take our equipment and be the DJ at parties that friends and family were having.
In the late 90s we dabbled in streaming our shows and then promptly went on hiatus for about 4 years.
We were not going out that easy though; 25 December 2004 WBOA returned with enough pipe to Shoutcast our shows, and BOA Friday developed into what you hear today. Jimmy K, Slammin Alvin and guests The Executive, The uBerdoug, BeerbongBen, E-Dub and The Bachness Monster find time to share our Fridays with you, the Fans. Were on the station built by the Bands, for the Fans, Infernal Rock Radio.

What to expect from Reality (TV) Sucks? Tunes. Good ones. Requests. If I have it, I'll play it. If I don't have it I'll get it and play it on the next show.
I'll also throw out some Rock history, some sports, and spew my absolute distaste of pop-culture.
Tune in. Turn it up. Built by the Bands. For the Fans. Up IRR.

More Background On InfernalRockRadio.com
InfernalRockRadio.com emerged during a formative era of Internet radio, when independent broadcasters, underground music scenes, and early streaming technologies intersected to create an alternative to corporate FM and satellite radio. Launched in the mid-to-late 2000s, Infernal Rock Radio positioned itself squarely within the global metal and hard-rock underground, offering a platform that rejected mainstream playlists in favor of artist-driven programming, community participation, and uncompromising genre depth.
The station’s guiding philosophy—frequently summarized in its long-standing slogan, “Built by the bands, for the fans”—was not merely promotional language. It reflected a genuine operational model in which unsigned and independent bands were treated as collaborators rather than content commodities. At a time when algorithmic recommendation engines were still primitive and social media had not yet consolidated music discovery, Infernal Rock Radio served as an active cultural hub for metal fans seeking authenticity, extremity, and human curation.
InfernalRockRadio.com functioned as both the technical gateway to the stream and the social home of the station, hosting schedules, DJ profiles, show descriptions, reviews, and community interaction points that mirrored the aesthetics and values of underground metal culture.
Ownership and Organizational Structure
Infernal Rock Radio was independently owned and operated, without corporate backing, venture capital, or institutional media sponsorship. This independence shaped both its strengths and its vulnerabilities. While the station maintained complete editorial freedom and cultivated a fiercely loyal audience, it also relied heavily on volunteer labor, personal resources, and passion-driven sustainability rather than advertising revenue or subscription models.
The station was administered by a small core team responsible for infrastructure, licensing compliance, and scheduling, while individual DJs operated semi-autonomously within assigned time slots. This decentralized structure allowed for stylistic diversity across shows while maintaining a consistent ethos centered on metal, hard rock, and related underground genres.
Unlike traditional radio operations with rigid hierarchies, Infernal Rock Radio functioned more like a cooperative network of DJs, reviewers, and contributors—many of whom were musicians themselves or deeply embedded in local and international scenes.
Licensing, Technology, and Internet Radio Infrastructure
Infernal Rock Radio operated as a properly licensed Internet radio station, compliant with U.S. and international digital broadcasting standards through performance rights organizations. This licensing enabled the station to stream music legally across borders, a critical factor in its global listenership.
Technologically, the station relied on common Internet radio frameworks of the era, including Shoutcast or similar streaming servers, integrated players, and later compatibility with third-party listening platforms. InfernalRockRadio.com provided direct streaming access via web players while also enabling listeners to tune in through external media players and Internet radio directories.
The site itself reflected the aesthetics of early-2010s underground music websites: dense content, dark visual themes, practical navigation, and an emphasis on substance over polish. Rather than prioritizing minimalist design, the site functioned as an information-rich portal where schedules, reviews, playlists, and community updates took precedence.
Programming Philosophy and Musical Scope
Infernal Rock Radio was unapologetically genre-specific, yet internally diverse. While metal served as the unifying core, the station embraced a wide range of subgenres, including:
-
Traditional and classic heavy metal
-
Thrash, death, black, and doom metal
-
Industrial and extreme metal hybrids
-
Hard rock and underground rock variants
-
Experimental and crossover styles
Rather than adhering to strict formatting or rotation rules, programming was curated by individual DJs, each bringing their own expertise, preferences, and scene affiliations. This resulted in shows that felt personal, opinionated, and deeply informed—qualities increasingly rare in later streaming ecosystems.
Many shows blended music with commentary, interviews, band spotlights, and listener interaction, reinforcing the sense that Infernal Rock Radio was a conversation rather than a broadcast.
DJs, Shows, and Community Voices
One of the defining characteristics of Infernal Rock Radio was its DJ roster. Hosts were not anonymous voices or automated playlists; they were named personalities with identifiable tastes, recurring shows, and direct engagement with listeners.
DJs frequently introduced tracks with context—discussing band histories, album production, tour stories, or underground rumors—creating an educational layer that appealed to dedicated fans. Some hosts specialized in particular subgenres, while others adopted eclectic formats that moved freely across styles.
Listener interaction was central to the experience. Requests, shout-outs, chatroom discussions, and forum participation helped shape playlists in real time. This two-way dynamic distinguished Infernal Rock Radio from passive listening platforms and reinforced its identity as a community-driven station.
Support for Independent and Unsigned Bands
Infernal Rock Radio’s commitment to unsigned and independent bands represented one of its most important cultural contributions. At a time when label-backed promotion dominated visibility, the station actively solicited submissions from bands without industry representation.
Airplay on Infernal Rock Radio often served as a band’s first exposure to international listeners. DJs reviewed demo submissions, featured emerging acts alongside established names, and treated independent releases with the same seriousness afforded to major-label albums.
This approach fostered trust within underground scenes. Bands viewed the station not as a gatekeeper, but as an ally—one willing to amplify voices overlooked by mainstream media.
Reviews, Editorial Content, and Scene Documentation
Beyond streaming, InfernalRockRadio.com functioned as a repository of editorial content. Album reviews, show recaps, and scene commentary provided written documentation of metal culture during a period of rapid digital transition.
Reviews were typically candid and unfiltered, reflecting the values of underground criticism rather than promotional copy. This honesty further distinguished the station from commercial outlets and contributed to its credibility among fans.
Over time, the accumulated content on InfernalRockRadio.com became an inadvertent archive—preserving snapshots of bands, releases, and scenes that might otherwise have faded from collective memory.
Popularity, Reach, and Audience
While Infernal Rock Radio was never a mass-market operation, its influence extended well beyond its modest scale. The station attracted a geographically diverse audience spanning North America, Europe, and parts of Asia and South America—regions with strong metal subcultures.
Listeners tended to be deeply engaged rather than casual. Many tuned in for specific shows, followed favorite DJs, and participated regularly in chatrooms or comment sections. This loyalty translated into longevity; Infernal Rock Radio remained active for years despite the financial and logistical challenges faced by independent Internet broadcasters.
The station’s popularity was measured less by raw listener counts and more by cultural resonance. Within underground circles, Infernal Rock Radio was recognized as a legitimate platform—one that prioritized substance, respect for the music, and community connection.
Cultural and Social Significance
Infernal Rock Radio occupies an important place in the broader history of Internet radio and underground music culture. It exemplifies a period when independent digital broadcasting offered a viable alternative to corporate media—a space where niche communities could self-organize and sustain themselves through shared passion.
The station also reflects the transitional moment between early web-based communities and later social-media-dominated ecosystems. InfernalRockRadio.com functioned as a destination site, encouraging deep engagement rather than fleeting interaction.
For many listeners and bands, the station represented more than entertainment. It was a social anchor, a discovery engine, and a symbol of resistance to homogenized music culture.
Decline, Disappearance, and Digital Afterlife
Like many passion-driven Internet radio projects, Infernal Rock Radio eventually ceased active operations. The reasons were likely multifaceted: rising licensing costs, infrastructure challenges, shifting listener habits, and the personal toll of sustaining an unpaid media platform over many years.
When InfernalRockRadio.com went offline, its disappearance was felt within the community it had served. Unlike commercial stations that leave behind corporate archives, independent projects often vanish abruptly, taking years of cultural documentation with them.
Fortunately, portions of Infernal Rock Radio’s online presence survive through digital archives, cached pages, and community recollections. These fragments allow historians, fans, and researchers to reconstruct the station’s role and appreciate its contributions.
Legacy and Historical Value
Today, InfernalRockRadio.com stands as a case study in independent digital media, underground music advocacy, and community-based broadcasting. Its legacy is not defined by profit or scale, but by impact—on bands who gained exposure, listeners who discovered new music, and a scene that briefly thrived outside corporate control.
As Internet radio continues to evolve, projects like Infernal Rock Radio serve as reminders of what was possible when technology empowered communities rather than algorithms. The station’s ethos—authenticity, collaboration, and respect for the music—remains influential even as the platforms have changed.
Infernal Rock Radio did not simply play metal; it helped sustain a culture.
